Hi Reader! For the past few years, my goal has been to design a life I don’t need to escape from. One that I enjoy. And I’ve done a good job at doing that. I love puttering around in my RV, visiting beautiful places with Ozzy at my side, and spending slow days and quiet nights. I tell most people that I’m semi-retired. (Because that seems to raise fewer questions than the reality that I only want to work a few hours each day.) But to create this life, I’ve made some tradeoffs in how I run my business. And I’ve realized in the past few months that these tradeoffs have made me dread portions of my business. Luckily, the Universe wants me to realize this fact because, over the last few weeks, it’s been trying to pound this idea into my head.
And so rather than doing my usual year-end review and content planning, I’m looking at everything. I did a brand-new one-sheet business plan from scratch (rather than just reading it over and updating it.) I’ve been looking at each aspect of my business and asking myself Marie Kondo-syle if it sparks joy (or if it’s something I dread). While you can never eliminate all projects in your business that you don’t love, I’m trying to figure out how to incorporate more of the things that I do love. My challenge to you today is to do the same. How can you make tweaks and changes to your business to design a business that’s built just for you? I’d love to hear one tweak or experiment you are going to try. Chat soon, P.S. Ready to set up your business for a strong 2025 without worrying about legal gaps? I’m going to host a free 4-day challenge in January that helps you identify *exactly* what legal tasks will support your specific goals next year. Want to stay in the loop about this challenge? Click here and you’ll be added to the list! P.P.S. As someone who’s constantly meeting new people, I’ve studied the art of conversation over the past few years and tried to develop my skills. I still have plenty to practice and learn, but since the election, these two books have come up a lot in conversations. And I agree that they are excellent places to learn how to have a different kind of conversation with those you interact with in your daily lives. They are I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times by Mónica Guzmán and How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen by David Brooks. ❤️ Easy to understand legal resources should be available to every creative, regardless of their financial situation. If one of my resources has helped you and you would like to say “thank you”, you can make a contribution here. ❤️ |
