🦅 Follow the breadcrumbs

Hi Reader!

Almost exactly a year ago, I decided to take a pickleball lesson. I had played a few times for fun, and it piqued my curiosity.

At the time, my only goal was to learn a little more about the game, since it’s a BIG social activity in both my summer and winter RV parks. I didn’t expect to get competitive or obsessed with the sport.

Fast forward one year, and I now play almost every day. I’ve also played in multiple pickleball tournaments and won some medals. And last month, I started training to be a pickleball referee. (This one is the least surprising, because I love applying rules, law, and order!)

Yesterday, I had my first on-court referee training. And it was tough.

My trainer had the players throw all the errors my way, and I missed several. There are a lot of things to pay attention to, and I wasn’t fast enough. There are exact scripts you have to say, and I didn’t have all of them exactly memorized.

Needless to say, I did some things right, but many things wrong.

But it was a good learning experience. And a good reminder that the first time we do most things, we don’t get them right. It takes time, effort, and practice to get good at something.

But I’m glad that I followed that little spark of curiosity last year, and then was open to the next one. This isn’t a path or journey I would have expected a year ago, but it’s one that’s created great friendships, taught me new things about myself, and helped me trust my intuition more.

P.S. Tariffs have been the bane of many creatives in 2025. My friend Arianne over at Aeolidia wrote an email outlining five quick steps you should take if you import products in the U.S. (especially if you are now going to be subject to tariffs with the de minimis exception expiring on August 29th). Head here to read the full email and use the button below to sign up for her emails.
