🦅 "I already have language that sounds like me" + your weekly roundup

Hi Reader!

I’m a big fan of saved replies. There are many reasons I use them frequently in my business (and I break some of them down in this week’s video).

But I don’t create my saved replies using ChatGPT, someone else’s downloaded scripts, or via a Google search. I create them via my inbox, because I already have language that sounds like me.

And that’s my “hack” for creating saved replies without staring at a blank screen: searching my inbox.

I pop in keywords related to the saved reply I want to write and look at the resulting email threads.

In those threads, I grab language that:

  • feels clear and kind
  • sounds like me
  • clients responded well to

And I use the language I find to create my saved reply, because I wouldn’t need a saved reply if I hadn’t answered this question dozens of times already.

So that’s your challenge this week: rather than staring at a blank screen to answer that question sitting in your inbox that you’ve answered dozens of times already. Take just a few moments to search your inbox and pull language that’s worked well before.

Use that language to craft a saved reply. Then test it for that email you need to answer. And keep it handy so you can use it next time you have to answer this question again.

The clause to notice

One small section of a contract that can have an outsized impact later.

This week’s pattern: Pros don’t negotiate everything.

When I negotiate a contract, I don’t push back on every little detail. I focus on those terms that actually impact my client and how she is paid or the risks she is taking on. Some terms just aren’t worth the energy to change.

As you might have heard me say, I know I’ve hit the right balance in negotiating a contract when neither side is 100% happy, but no one is 100% unhappy either.

Good negotiators know what matters is the big picture, not getting their fingerprints on every sentence. So don’t feel pressure to “get” everything right. Focus on those things that matter, and you will be negotiating like a pro.

Why answering client emails feels more exhausting than it should

The frustrating part isn't knowing what to say to your client's email. It's sitting in front of an email you've written twenty times before and writing (and then rewriting) it. Let's change that and make your communication feel lighter, calmer, and easier to reuse.
