Hi Reader! Sometimes it feels quicker to remember something rather than jot it down, update a process, or fix an outdated workflow. But as your business grows, the number of things you are keeping in your head also grows. You have to remember what exception you made for Client A, how the workflow is different for Client B, along with 50 other things. And that’s why my mantra to myself the past year has been, “My memory is not a system.” Because my brain has only so much space. And the mental drain of juggling everything slows me down far more than the few minutes that it would take to update that system, process, or make that note. So I’ve been taking the time to document, update, and make notes. And as I’ve been doing this, I’ve realized that many of my systems haven’t “officially” been updated in years. I’d gotten to the point that I “knew” the system was out of date, but had a workaround filed in my memory, and so I just did that instead. And I would just keep telling myself, “I really should update that someday.” As I’ve gotten around to updating these things, I can’t believe how much smoother things are feeling. I’ve always been organized, but there was something about updating my documentation that made everything feel easier. So that’s my challenge to you today. When you read the subject line in your inbox, I bet you thought of one specific thing in your business that is way out of date. And I bet it doesn’t take a full 20 minutes to update it. So go do it now. If you only have 20 minutes this week, the task above is the most important thing to do. But if you have a little more time, keep reading. Chat soon,
